Common Conditions - Chapter 5: Anxiety
Welcome back to our common conditions chapters where I go over common conditions that I see walk into my office.
This chapter is on Anxiety!
This is a common one can show up in many different ways, over different causes!
Anxiety can show up with anticipation, in general, in relation to very specific fears, in social situation and alongside many other conditions - Or for no reason at all!
Anxiety is indiscriminate and sneaky. Anxiety can linger in the background or dominate your whole waking day.
Regardless, you likely need some support in managing it so you can live your life.
Before we get into management, we need to go over what anxiety looks like for those of you who don’t have a diagnosis.
Anxiety can look like physical symptoms like:
Rapid heartbeat
Shortness of breath
Dizziness
unexplained aches and pains
And more.
Anxiety can look like cognitive symptoms like:
Feeling nervous or irritable
Having a sense of impending doom
Trouble making decisions and concentrating
Trouble sleeping
And more.
But if that is how it looks and feels like, how do we diagnosis that?
Well that is done by the professionals using screening tools and reviewing your symptoms.
Then they treat.
Treatment can look like therapy. It can look like anti-anxiety medications. It can look like meditation and deep breathing. It can look like exercise and so much more.
Where I step in is helping when the initial recommendations maybe aren’t holding and you feel you need more. Or maybe, you think you may be experiencing it but need help finding the right path. I step in to help listen and help not only with the anxiety but the conditions that can come along as a little unwanted bonus. Like IBS, fatigue, headaches, muscle tension and more.
Wherever you are at in your journey with anxiety, the important thing is to reach out to your friendly neighbourhood ND, MD or NP or therapist. They can help you move along and find relief.
As always, I can’t give away the farm but I do recognize that you likely need help. I don’t bite and I can do virtual or in person depending on your comfortability. My goal is to help you feel more comfortable.
If you’d like to give it a shot, you can find me using the link in bio and I hope you stick to for the next episode on bloating!
bye for now!
